Chasing the monsoons

Haven’t you heard when somebody say this was the unforgettable journey of their life time. Sorry, but we too are obliged to say the same except that we have some proofs to justify our quotes.
I believe within the time I have written this traveblogue, none of you would have visited these places and I invite you to travel with us to these wonderful hidden treasure lands.

The only thing you might have heard about the Canaras would be The Canara Bank. But this was the place we chose for our travel experiments. The exploration of these virgin beauties of the Canara region was filled with joy, surprises and the intervention of what we call the X factor.

"The exams won’t be there for one more week or perhaps 2” says Anish

“Why not we go to Shimoga and finish off that incomplete chapter?” asked me. (And that incomplete chapter needs some explanation. The 2k5 traveller and some of his fellow mates had decided one week before to have a tour to Shimoga. But on getting the 2k5rocks sms that exams would start next Monday, they (all except Manu) decided to make Kottayam and Ernakulam their Shimoga for the time being, since most of them infected with exam fever started deserting him through the train journey. Alas, but the exams never started and the money lost for train tickets was much more disheartening.)

And within seconds Anish had phoned all prospective travellers and confirmed their esteemed presence for the trip. Money was not an issue since the tour grant of 2000 bucks was thought to be more than enough.

Now the number reached 7 and everyone found their way to the Railway Station in the last minute on to the boards of Gandhidham Express. Making the first wrong decision to board train at the General class behind, we saw the three Generals passing before us which was just behind the engine. At last somehow climbed over and booked our seats. The train passed through the greenery of Kerala which we all were already fed up with and slowly everyone drifted into sleep. Occasional jerks by unsatisfied standing ones and kicks by the sleeping ones and the hardcore ‘pacha-theris’ by the person overhead had made our REM sleep cut too short.

From this day, sun never seemed to be interested in us and vice versa. Dark sky clouding over the train was all what we could see, not forgetting the lush forests and green paddy fields stretching kilometres and miles on either side of the rails. And these are the Konkan rails. Tk…. And the lights flashed off. We have entered a 3 km long tunnel making us a little dizzy in the early morning only emerging into the light only to see rain lashing over us… Leaving behind the port city of Mangalore, the food capital of South India, Udupi and various places like Baindur, Bidur and many a unknown places the train headed to our destination Murudeswar. Even then we haven’t decided where to go and what to see and when the hot discussions brewed up we saw a board reading ‘MURUDESWAR’. Everyone took hold of their bags and jumped off the train into the alien island.

Since this only happens to be the introduction to our 6 day long journey, I have decided to make it a full episode travelogue. Wait for the next …
